Teaching children how to understand epilepsy and support people who face challenging medical problems is an important part of removing stigma. Healing Young Hearts Volunteers organized a special epilepsy education session with the 5th grade class at Cathay Future to mark Global Purple Day, March 26th, the day to show support for people with epilepsy. Sixty children participated in this event to learn about seizure first aid, and how to help reduce the stigma of epilepsy which is the most common neurological condition in the world. Children heard lectures, participated in educational activities and games, demonstrated the first aid skills they learned, and talked with a young teenage volunteer who has epilepsy and shared his experiences of fighting his challenging condition.
